 Number Types
 

The following types of numbers are available in South Africa:

  • Premium rate shortcode numbers – This is when the mobile user is billed at a premium rate when they send a message to the number. The additional revenue generated by this premium number is passed on to the number owner.
  • Standard rate numbers – The mobile user is charged at normal cellular rates when they send a message to the number. There is no revenue share with the number owner.

Each number range is related to a specific price as pre-determined by the operators. A minimum of 2 000 inbound messages is required per month for Vodacom and 500 for MTN.
